I kid you not: this was an actual title of an article I just had the misfortune of seeing: "How to Write an Alliteration Poetry" -- SERIOUSLY???? It was in a section of writing tutorials...

Mmmm, yes, I'm taking notes on THAT.

I'm telling you right now that I would not let my 8- or 9-year-old daughter wear mascara and eyeliner.  There are other moms who probably wouldn't care about it one way or another and might, in fact, like the eco-friendly claims by this company that is targeting their cosmetics to tweens.

But I doubt it.  Still, someone in Walmart's marketing department thought that it was a lucrative and sensible move.

Walmart targets 9-12 year-old girls with their new cosmetics line.   I wrote the article, but I didn't go into great detail and didn't give my opinion on it.  I did include a quote from a friend who gave her 2 cents.

I have to say, though, it pisses me off that they're doing this.  It's the idea that girls should be encouraged to do more than just practice good hygiene as pre-teens, but they should make an effort to beautify themselves because they aren't lovely enough as-is.  It's as though for every step forward, we have to take two steps back because the big marketing giants are working against us.

**sigh**

Something we should ALL study.

I'm in a summer rut.  I can't do anything that costs money and it's too hot to do anything outside (seriously... there was a heat index of 102º at 6 at night).  What is a burnt-out Mommy to do?

I tried driving around, having little "adventures" with them, which somehow ended up with me getting Slurpees, and the Slurpees getting all over the inside of the minivan.  That is absolutely not fun.  I don't like driving in general, and doing it with three kids in the middle of summer is not my idea of happy happy joy joy..

(REMEMBER REN & STIMPY? Click here for musical accompaniment, with lyrics for those summer singalongs with your demented friends!)

I'd rather see the dentist than take them downtown.  Seriously.  The pool would be an option were it not for the fact that, after two summers of swim lessons, the kids still cannot swim, although they are very enthusiastic about the whole thing.  It's not my imagination; the teachers recommended that they all repeat the same class they just took.  This would not normally be a huge problem if my husband was home, but he will be gone in an even hotter, albeit dryer, place until the very last day of summer.  Hmm.

So I'm thinking to myself, Kim, you need to do SOMETHING with these children during the last month of summer or you will go nuts.  More nuts, I guess...

I am thinking of something non-video game-related.  I've got nothing.  Sooooooooooooo....

Hit me with your best ideas.  My friends are very clever people and I am sure they can come up with something.
